Project Engineer – Harwich
We are looking for a motivated and proactive Project Engineer to join our Engineering team in Harwich. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to play a key role in delivering maintenance, reliability, and capital improvement projects across a busy process industry environment.
The successful candidate will manage engineering maintenance and project activities covering mechanical, electrical, and control systems. You will identify opportunities for improvement, develop concepts into fully approved projects, and ensure safe delivery on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage engineering maintenance, compliance inspections, and reliability improvement activities
- Deliver engineering projects from concept through to implementation and commissioning
- Prepare and develop Management of Change (MOC) and CAPEX proposals
- Coordinate planned engineering work activities, ensuring safe systems of work are in place
- Maintain and update engineering documentation including:
- Operating procedures
- Maintenance schedules
- Equipment registers
- AutoCAD drawings such as P&IDs and wiring diagrams
- SAP maintenance records and work orders
- Support procurement activities including specifications, quotations, and purchase requisitions
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and timelines to ensure successful delivery
- Manage contractors in line with health & safety and compliance requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of improved engineering systems and procedures
- Ensure compliance with company policies and standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 18001
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Level 4 / HNC / NVQ qualification in Engineering or Maintenance Operations (minimum)
- Experience in maintenance management and/or project engineering within a process industry environment
- Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and engineering compliance
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with operational and engineering teams
- Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Familiarity with SAP maintenance systems and AutoCAD
- Ability to manage projects safely, efficiently, and within budget
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
