Business Development Manager
Reporting to: China Sales Manager
Based: China – Beijing, Hebei or Tianjin
Language: Mandarin with preferred fluent English in both written and verbal form
Role Purpose
To grow profitable sales revenue for the client in line with the company strategy and growth plan. You will effectively develop existing customer accounts to grow both revenue and profit and proactively identify, target and win new customer accounts. You will act as an ambassador for the company at industry exhibitions and events.
Role and Responsibilities
- Generate and develop new customers / business in a range of industries including but not limited to China – Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shanxi, Shaanxi Territory – primary focused on distribution channels for the laboratory, pharmaceutical medical, industrial, food, education, animal & veterinary markets.
- Conduct a market review to understand full revenue potential and missed opportunities, both within existing and new markets
- Provide expertise to international distributors and make recommendations for improvements in sales processes & procedures where appropriate
- Analyse current customer activity in relation to spend and margin compared to size and opportunity to understand sales and margin variance and to identify the greatest and most profitable account development opportunities
- Appoint and develop distributor networks in geographical locations
- Develop and recommend product positioning to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
- Using company resources and your own market knowledge to identify future potential customers in the market and develop a new customer acquisition plan/strategy
- To be aware of at all times and collect as much marketing intelligence as possible while being aware of any new developments and sharing that knowledge with Managing Director and Sales Director and make suggestions on margin improvement and market share gains
- Produce a weekly sales activity report highlight work carried out that week and short to long term plans.
- Update the company CRM/sales system with current and relevant information
- To ensure that enquiries, quotes and tenders are prepared and submitted internally for approval where appropriate and then on to the customer and follow up all quotes in a professional and timely manner
- Attend applicable bid assessment, tender vet and contract review meetings as and where appropriate.
- Ensure that customer experience and their requirements are managed internally and externally.
- To organise, attend and man trade stands and shows where applicable.
- To assist with the company marketing strategy where required
- Manage partnerships to maximise revenue potential
- Identify new possible partnerships that can help with market penetration
- To visit customers and distributors and question them over their requirements, trying to establish their hidden commercial purchasing trends and maintain records as appropriate.
- To carry out further tasks that may be delegated to you by the Sales Director
- Fully comply with Company Policies including Health and Safety at all times.
Experience, Qualifications and Attributes
- Proficient salesperson with a proven track record of account development and new business development of similar products
- Experience of multiple routes / distribution networks
- Strong organisational and time management
- Experience of costing and quote generation
- Financial acumen.
- People Person.
- Goal Orientated.
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Strong ability to take initiative and confidently direct customer.

- To meet and exceed the requirements of the Chief Sales Officer & Chief Executive Officer.
- To take a key part in continuous customer experience improvements.
- Always looking for ways to increased profit and our customer portfolio.
- Accuracy in order processing and pricing, efficient and effective service, timely provision of support.
- Always looking for ways to learn and develop knowledge and experience.
With your proven track record in business development by selling products to distribution networks, (ideally weighing/Instrumentation product portfolios), and growing the networks you will succeed in this role. Your important contribution and desire to make a real difference and work with the management team to take the business to the next level will be vital for China and Internationally.
