Role Overview
The Quality Engineer will report into the Quality Manager working as part of the Quality team. They will assist in achieving departmental goals and objectives and improving the assigned areas of the business to meet customer requirements.
To deliver front line monitoring and control of quality in both parts made in house and purchased, to ensure that customer expectations are achieved.
To ensure actions required to maintain product quality are identified, communicated to and applied to all relevant areas of the business.
Champion a culture of reasoned corrective action and continuous improvement.
General Duties & Responsibilities
- Collate and analyse data for internal and external non conformance reports (NCRs) to drive improvement activity (preventive & corrective action) and for monthly management reports
- Lead timely and effective 8D corrective action and root cause analysis from start to finish, when non-conformances are identified by customers, using the IFS system
- Liaise with external suppliers regarding non-conformances and to investigate/co-ordinate reporting to completion
- To ensure root causes are identified and effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented for any internal identified issues
- In conjunction with the Quality Manager oversee the Quality Inspector duties, as appropriate, ensuring completion of required tasks or objectives
- To support inspection of Internal and purchased parts, and maintaining, improving the processes as and when required
- To ensure measurement studies, part and process analyses are supported and completed when required from internal or customer requests
- To identify and react accordingly to quality problems
- To support the operational functions to determine acceptable internal and external quality standards, and to issue concessions in conjunction with the design team where necessary
- To assess product quality against standards and make decisions on the level of acceptability
- To conduct, or support with internal, external or supplier audits
- To produce, maintain and develop Quality Assurance documents, e.g standard operating procedures, work instruction and packaging specifications where applicable
- Creating Quality Alerts where appropriate and delivering ‘Tool Box Talks’ to production
- To deputise for the Quality Manager when required
- To liaise with departments to ensure good quality products are produced
- Attend during daily production meetings as a Quality representative, report and action any Quality related items
- Represent quality during NPI meetings and action any requirements against the department
- To control and segregate non-conforming or suspect product
- To carry out First Article Inspections (FAIs) for current and new products in conjunction with the Inspector
- To derive/provide quality related documentation or support to sales, procurement, customers, audits, or similar, related activities or requirements
- To determine and implement inspection plans for Inspector to follow as appropriate
- Assist the Quality Manager with process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA) and process capability analysis
- Perform qualification inspection of new subcontracted parts or suppliers
- Develop inspection methods and facilities to be efficient and fit for purpose
- Supervision of calibration activities to ensure all equipment is maintained to the standard required
- Verify finished product for release approval and to issue certificates of conformity (CoC)
- Provide and assist with training and development of operators and apprentices when appropriate
- Collate internal NCR data for monthly management reports
- Produce PPAP documentation for new customer products from measurement data, C of C, process flow, ballooned drawings, Inspection reports and any customer specific documentation or requirements
- Working to develop and successfully introduce quality systems for IFS software
- Maintaining the QMS – working to develop and introduce our IFS system from a quality point of view

Person Specification
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Have experience of working in an engineering / manufacturing environment in a quality role
- They will have a working knowledge and understanding of quality management processes, systems and standards (including ISO 9001 or equivalent)
- Internal Auditor certification for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 would be an advantage.
- Be able to interpret engineering drawings
- Experience in using a large variety of measurement equipment including CMM
- A knowledge of statistical quality control techniques would be an advantage
- Ability to generate and collate good quality cohesive reports and documentation

Qualifications
- To apply, you must have a HNC or NVQ level 4 in engineering. An apprenticeship certificate in a relevant engineering discipline is also preferred
