Financial Accountant (Group Finance)

The Role

The role is Financial Accountant, to work within an experienced Group Finance team of 6.  The team deals with the preparation and analysis of the Group’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial results, as well as with fixed assets, lease accounting, tax, treasury, audit, and other group projects including all external stakeholder reporting. Group Finance is part of a wider finance and procurement team of over 50 people. The role reports to the Group Financial Accountant and will work closely with a range of members within the wider business.

The primary responsibilities will include:

  • Support the accounting for number of Group management overhead companies, across all of the financial cycle including full ownership of the balance sheets;
  • Support of monthly management accounting consolidation of group companies and initial first stage analytical review;
  • Support with monthly and quarterly reporting process, both internal to the Exec Board and external to the Shareholder and other key stakeholders;
  • Involved in year end routine in relation to financial statements, including being a point of contact with the external auditors;
  • Support with the preparation of annual statutory financial statements for all companies within the Group, under IFRS and UK GAAP, including iXBRL requirements;
  • Support with group corporation tax process, including data preparation for computations and review of consequent outputs;
  • Support with internal controls design and effectiveness reviews;
  • Provide solutions to accounting issues;
  • Assist with the annual 5 year business plan process including maintaining models and documenting assumptions; and
  • Ad hoc assignments.

The Candidate

The following attributes and skills are desirable to the role:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified;
  • Clear understanding of current accounting / technical issues including IFRS;
  • Sound “hands on” accounting background;
  • Questioning and analytical nature, looking to understand the numbers rather than just prepare them;
  • Investment appraisal experience preferred;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong IT skills including using spreadsheets; and
  • Ability to liaise confidently with all levels of management outside of finance.
